To apply for a Remarriage/Reaffirmation
of Civil Union License

Couples can apply for a license in Plainsboro Township if:

Either party resides in Plainsboro Township and the ceremony will take place in New Jersey.

OR

If neither party resides in New Jersey, but the ceremony is taking place in Plainsboro.

Couples must provide proof of the Original marriage/civil union to the same partner in the form of a certified copy.

Couples must appear in person to the Municipal Center, Township Clerk’s Office, 641 Plainsboro Road during the hours of:

Monday 9:00 - 3:30
Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday 12:00 - 3:30
Friday 9:00 - 3:30

Couples must bring the following

  1. Proof of the Original marriage/civil union to the same partner
  2. One witness who is at least 18 years old
  3. Proof of residency (lease, mortgage, utility bill or valid NJ driver’s license)
  4. Original birth certificates with a raised seal or valid passports
  5. Social security numbers
  6. Name of the municipality in which the ceremony will take place ( the physical location, not the mailing address)
  7. Date of the ceremony
  8. Name and address of the person who is performing the ceremony
  9. Mothers’ maiden names  
  10. Place (State or Country) where parents were born
There is no waiting period for the license and will be issued on the same day. Licenses are valid for 30 days from the issued date. There is a $28 fee payable by Cash or Money Order.

Note: Effective August, 1997, New Jersey no longer requires a blood test.
