Program Details:
Provides free legal services in civil matters to financially eligible individuals. Four basic categories of legal assistance and representation are in family, housing, consumer and economic assistance. Included in these categories are issues relating to landlord and tenant, public assistance, social security, food stamps, disability, TANF, Work First, divorce, domestic violence, custody, child support, consumer problems and bankruptcy. Legal Services cannot help illegal aliens, incarcerated individuals, criminal cases, municipal cases, or small claims cases. However, if the client is a victim of domestic violence and is an undocumented immigrant, Legal Services will be able to help that individual.

Eligibility:
Middlesex, Mercer or Union County resident; Household income below 175% of poverty level or senior citizens age 60 and older.

Program Details:
The Domestic Violence Representation Project (DVRP) exists to provide direct legal assistance, referral and advice to low income women (175% of federal poverty level) who suffer abuse from a spouse or other family member, caretaker, or significant other and cannot afford to pay for the services of a private attorney in a civil action to escape the situation. THIS PROGRAM HANDLES CIVIL CASES ONLY. NOT CRIMINAL CASES. As resources permit, DVRP may provide some direct representation for Restraining Order hearings and other related matters such as custody, visitation, spousal support and child support.

Eligibility:
Female domestic violence victims at 175% of poverty level. Civil cases only.

Provides services for South Asian women who are victims of any form of violence. Services include: culture specific supportive counseling, Ashiana (transitional home for women and children), immigration services, legal clinics, crisis intervention, interpreter services, some transportation, outreach through education, support groups, court/medical accompaniment and advocacy. Program Details:
PROGRAMS: Sanford Bates House, Resource Center of Middlesex County, Parents and Their Children Recovering Together (P.A.R.T.S.) Provides a variety of direct services to low income persons, including: offenders and ex-offenders, victims of sexual assault and domestic violence and HIV and individuals who are homeless. These include residential and outclient services to assist individuals with reintegrating into society. NJAC's public education and policy unit works to improve the effectiveness of the criminal justice system through organized advocacy, legislative lobbying and public education through the media and presentations to community groups.

Program Details:
Provides services directly to the community. Services include: translation and interpreting, domestic violence counseling, parenting skills, adolescent and family counseling in-home, works with juvenile detention programs to help maintain the connection between the juvenile and family, trains detention staff on cultural sensitivity, some job placement. Works with Family Development Program enrollees referred by welfare for job placement. Provides training for Hispanic community based organizations and for agencies that serve Hispanics in such areas as Board and volunteer development, management skills, cultural sensitivity, program and curriculum development. Programs tailored to meet individual needs specific to agencies served. Also conducts research, gathers data and provides information and advocacy activities. Sponsors and co-sponsors conferences dealing with Hispanic issues. Sponsors special child abuse and neglect prevention programs, and holds presentations on domestic violence. Volunteers can help with program designs, fund-raising, and intakes.

Sunrise Institute for Mental Health, Inc., provides treatment to individuals suffering from multiple emotional problems, and cross-cultural issues. They provide services for children, adolescents, adults, and they also provide forensic services. Services include individual and group psychotherapy, psychological testing, school evaluations, biofeedback, crisis intervention, and seminars. Program Details:
Provides emergency shelter for victims of domestic violence and their children, 24 hour crisis intervention and hotline counseling, legal information and advocacy, public awareness and community education, support groups for battered women in two locations throughout the county. Training for Community Response Teams is currently provided by Women AWARE in Rutgers University, South River, South Brunswick, Woodbridge, Edison, South Plainfield, Dunellen, North Brunswick, Piscataway, Old Bridge, Plainsboro and Perth Amboy. DONATIONS: also accepts prepaid phone cards and grocery store gift certificates for clients. VOLUNTEERS: adult volunteers are always needed, but by law they must complete a 40 hour training.

Program Details:
2nd Location 7 Cedar Grove Lane Suite 31A Somerset, NJ 08873 A women's resource center offering supportive services for women. Offers peer-led support groups (sessions are run 4 times/year and run for 10 weeks at a time; leaders have completed a training course and are supervised by a therapist), professional individual counseling and therapy groups, community education workshops, and a counseling and information and referral helpline. Legal clinics are offered once a month where the client may meet with a lawyer for a brief appointment. Also offers a monthly book club, book and video library and a bimonthly newsletter. NEW SUPPORT GROUP FOR TEEN GIRLS: "Strong Girls" Therapy Group- for girls ages 13-18. Group is designed to help teen girls build and maintain their self-esteem. Issues addressed include: responsibility, anger, peer pressure, drugs and alcohol, and self-acceptance. DONATIONS: Office supplies and equipment, computers, books on women's issues, in addition to others listed. VOLUNTEERS: are used for the helpline and support groups.

Program Details:
The Women's Trauma Program offers a comprehensive, innovative model of treatment for women who are suffering from the impact of trauma-either by history or in their present circumstance. Some experiences that result in trauma include rape, domestic violence, physical abuse, sexual abuse, and/or long-term psychological abuse. Care is based on the individuals needs. Trauma work can be done as an inpatient for short-term crisis stabilization, as a participant in six hour a day partial hospitalization, intensive outpatient or in outpatient services for individual, group or family therapies.

Eligibility:
Women ages 18 and over needing treatment.

Fees:
Medicare/Medicaid and third party insurance accepted.
