Mayor Peter Cantu and Committeeman Neil Lewis joined James Demetriades, Chief Executive Officer of Penn Medicine Hospital, and other dignitaries to officially break ground at the hospital for a new, approximate $40 million, six-level parking deck. The deck includes 1,161 spaces, along with dedicated electric vehicle charging spaces.
The parking garage will be engineered and designed to accommodate an expansion to the east, should it be necessary to address future parking needs on the campus (e.g., possible future phase two medical office building).
“I am very pleased to see the hospital expanding, first with the addition of the parking deck and then with the new cancer and imaging center to follow,” stated Mayor Peter Cantu, “This will benefit not only Plainsboro residents, but residents in the region and the state”.
The deck is the first phase of a project related to the new cancer and imaging center proposed for the eastern end of the building where the former fitness center was located. This site plan is currently being reviewing by staff and will be before the Planning Board by the end of the year.
The primary access to the deck will be located at the southwestern corner of the garage, with a second vehicular entrance to be directly aligned with the exit of the expanded patient drop-off and valet area. The drop off area will include additional space for smaller delivery trucks.
