At the annual reorganization meeting held Tuesday night, Peter Cantu was sworn in for his 17th term on the Plainsboro Township Committee. Cantu was then selected by the Township Committee to serve his 44th year as mayor and began his 52nd year of elected service to the township. Joining Mayor Cantu was his wife of 62 years, Gale, and officiating the swearing in was Township Clerk, Carol Torres.
Mayor Cantu thanked the residents for reelecting him to serve on the Township Committee and expressed appreciation to the committee members for reappointing him as mayor. In addition, he thanked the township employees for their unwavering support through the years. “Over the past 50 years the township has established and implemented good, sound planning practices that have effectively served our residents and businesses, fostering our journey from a small rural community to the Plainsboro we know today,” stated Mayor Cantu. “While I’m proud of these accomplishments, the thing I am most proud of is that we are a welcoming community that celebrates our diversity and truly respects one another. These are the key values that make Plainsboro a great place to live, work, and raise a family,” stated Mayor Cantu.
Ed Yates was also sworn in for his second term as Deputy Mayor. Deputy Mayor Yates has been a member of the Township Committee since 1998, and serves as liaison for both the Planning and Community Development department and the Code Enforcement department.
“I look forward to serving again as Deputy Mayor, as well as fulfilling my liaison roles and moving the township forward in 2024.”
