  • Inspections are performed Monday through Friday during the hours of 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Please provide at least 24 hours notice for scheduling inspections. You can also schedule inspections electronically through the SDL portal @ Request Building inspection

  • A permit is required for new construction or remodeling work and home additions, interior or exterior renovations, mechanical equipment replacements, electrical and plumbing work. A few examples of work that require a permit are as follows: construction of a new home or room addition or garage, construction of a deck, raised patio with steps and finishing your basement. Certain routine home maintenance projects do not require a permit or notification. If you are planning a project, contact the Building Division to determine if permits are needed.

  • In order for a homeowner to perform their own work, they must be currently residing in their single family dwelling. If someone else is performing the work, they must be licensed with the State of New Jersey. A general contractor must have a New Jersey Home Improvement Contractor license to perform work on residential properties.

  • A permit application can be obtained by contacting the Building Division. The proposed scope of work will determine whether or not drawn plans are required and which applications must be submitted for review. All permit applications are State forms and must be filled out in its entirety. If a contractor has been hired to perform this work their information, including current license number must also be included.
