The Township of Plainsboro requires all dogs and cats to be licensed when they reach the age of six months.

Pursuant to State regulation N.J.A.C.8:23A-4.1, when licensing, the rabies vaccination immunity MUST extend through at least ten (10) months of the 12-month licensing period. Licenses cannot be issued if the rabies vaccination expires before November 1st of the current year.
NOTE: If for any medical reason, the animal cannot be vaccinated in the required time, form VPH-28 (Certificate of Exemption) must be completed and signed by the veterinarian.
Dog Sitting
If you are 'Dog Sitting" for more than 90 days, a license must be obtained for the pet, whether or not the animal already has an existing license from another town.
New Residents
New residents must license their pets within 30 days of residency, or a late fee is applicable. Proof of rabies immunization and spay/neuter (if applicable) must be submitted along with the Animal License Application.
NOTE: Applications for new dog/cat licenses received after January will not be subject to the late fees imposed on renewal applications.
Renewals
If your dog or cat is currently licensed with the Township, a renewal letter will be mailed to you in November. Be sure to include an updated copy of rabies immunization (if needed) along with the renewal letter, a check made payable to "Plainsboro Township" and a self-addressed stamped envelope.
Pet owners have the option to submit their paperwork either in person or through the mail to:
The Township Clerk's Office
641 Plainsboro Road
Plainsboro, New Jersey 08536
NOTE: If you no longer own the pet or your pet is deceased please inform the Township Clerk’s office as soon as possible to remove the animal from the system.
All licenses not renewed by January 31st will be subject to a surcharge of $5.00 for each following month. Please refer to the fee schedule below.
